How to Actually Find What's Wrong With Your Website

People often come to us saying: "Something's wrong with my website, but I don't know what."

So they guess. They redesign it. They change colors, rewrite copy, add new sections.

Sometimes they get lucky and something improves. Usually, they just wasted time.

The real solution is to look at what's actually happening, not guess.

Stop guessing, start measuring

The biggest mistake is making changes without data.

If you don't know why something's not working, changing it is just guessing.

Better approach: find out exactly what's happening, then make changes based on that knowledge.

What to look at in your analytics

If you're using Google Analytics or Kajabi's built-in analytics, here's what matters:

1.Traffic sources – Where are people coming from? Email? Ads? Organic? Social? If you're not getting traffic, the page itself doesn't matter yet.

2.Landing pages – Which pages get the most visits? Which pages get the least? This tells you what's interesting.

3.Bounce rate – If people land on a page and immediately leave, something's wrong with that specific page.

4.Drop-off points – In your funnel (landing page → sign up → product page → checkout), where do people stop? That's your problem area.

  1. Conversion rate – What percentage of people who land actually take the action you want? This tells you how effective the page is.

Common problems worth checking

Before redesigning everything, check these first:

  • Is your main offer actually clear? Can people explain it back to you?
  • Do you have enough traffic? (You can't judge conversions if you get two visits a month)
  • Is your CTA obvious? Can they find where to buy or sign up?
  • Is your page loading slowly?
  • Does it work on mobile?
  • Do you have social proof? (Testimonials, numbers, logos)

These are the fundamentals. If they're weak, everything else is secondary.

The redesign decision

After you've analyzed and understood the problems, then you might redesign.

But redesign specific parts, not everything.

Maybe your homepage is fine but your sales page is weak. Fix the sales page.

Maybe your checkout works great but you're not getting traffic. Focus on traffic, not checkout.

Targeted fixes beat shotgun redesigns.

Final thought

Before you change anything on your website, stop and look at what's actually happening.

Where's the traffic coming from? Where are people dropping off? What do real visitors say when they visit?

Answer these questions first. Then make changes based on facts, not guesses.

If you want help analyzing your site or figuring out what's actually holding back your conversions, we can help.
